Stok Kangri

10 Nights / 11 Days

When should you go: 23 Jun - 02 July / 13 Aug - 23 Aug / 27 Aug - 06 Sep

The Stok Kangri dares you to conquer its 6000 metre peak. It is a trek to explore the magnificent grandeur of Ladakh, a moonscape terrain at times, spectacularly interspersed with colourful monasteries of Shey and Thiksey. First, take three days to acclimatize to the altitude and then set forth with a drive right up to Khardung La, the highest motorable pass in the world. From here, you have three days of trekking, ambling through Rumbak village and over the Stok La on the way to the Stok. As the summit beckons you mumble, "Stok, Stok, here I come."

Thank God the climb up is relatively straightforward and once on the summit ridge, you hike or slither across a glacier before daring the steep climb up the south ridge to the top. When you make it, finally, you breathe a sigh of rarefied relief, thump yourself on the back and then think of how to get back down will it be easy?
