First timers to trekking in the Himalayas rejoice, the Chopta Chandrashilla is one of the best ways to get off to a heady start. An enchanting overnight stay in a camp by the Devariyatal lake and next morning, energized by the electric Himalayan air, trek the lush forests t to Chopta(3000m), climb the concrete pilgrim trail bordered by Rhododendrons to the Tungnath temple(3680m) and then higher up to the challenging Chandrashila peak, the highest in the area.

Atop the summit, look all around you, drinking in the splendorous Kedarnath range to the north.Carry the memories down to the escarpment behind Sari to the Devariayatal, nestled amidst lush green forests, dwarfed by the Chaukhambha in clear sight. The next promises to be just as eventful with a trek across ridges dressed in thick forest cover right up to Chopta, finally camping in an open flower-strewn meadow. Feel nature infuse you on this enchanting trip.

  1. Day 00: Overnight train to Haridwar

    New Delhi to Haridwar through NDLS DDN AC Express (11:55pm). Arrival at Haridwar at 4.00 am in the morning.

  2. Day 01: Drive Haridwar - Sari and trek to Devariyatal

    From Haridwar station drive straight to the village of Sari high up the Mandakini valley. A steep 2 hour climb to Devariyatal Lake (2440 m). Overnight at Camp.

  3. Day 02: Trek Devariyatal - Chopta (3000m)

    Walk through a dense green forest crossing a couple of ridges. After having a packed lunch at a forest clearing, we descend to cross a stream where we enjoy a drink from its crystal waters. Climb up a steep path to reach Chopta (3000 m), located in an idyllic setting with beautiful alpine meadows and surrounded by dense forests. Overnight at Camp.

  4. Day 03: Trek Chopta - Tungnath (3680m) - Chandrashilla Top (4130m)

    Start early in the morning and climb up the cemented pilgrim path up to the Shiva temple of Tungnath (3680 m), with blossoming rhododendron bushes all around and the mighty Kedar range in full view throughout. Another climb of 45 mins leads us to the summit of Chandrashilla peak (4130 m) above Tungnath and later back to Chopta. Overnight Chopta.

  5. Day 04: Drive Chopta – Haridwar and take a train to Delhi

    Drive to Haridwar station to catch the evening Shatabdi Express to Delhi where we arrive at 10:45 pm.
